My Disgrace hails out of Nashville, Tennessee; always a hot spot for new bands, and not just new bands but hot new bands and that is exactly what My Disgrace is. This band is fronted by not one but two vocalist in Rob Young and Joel Price, they also share the lead guitar duties as well and do a fine job of that. On bass you have Jeff Earle and on drums Paul Simmons. These guys are all stellar musicians, very seasoned. This style is very different, it is Grunge/prog/rock/metal with a dash of soul and blues and that is what sets this band apart from the rest of the pack. They have come up with a unique style all their own without being freakish, staying true to the tones of rock/metal/grunge/prog. The vocals on this album are haunting, soaring, heart felt and sincere. The guitars are full, thick and rich and the drums and bass are clean and tight. The lyrics are spiritual, but not religious or preachy [very cool]. The lyrics are deep and thought provoking, yet simple enough for clear interpretation. These songs prove to be ultra heavy without being over the top fast, or screamo, death like or thrashy, or even sluggish heavy. They maintain a nice mid-tempo groove in most of their songs. This album seems dark at times but yet is inspiring and uplifting. It sounds like the lyrics are important to the band for the benefit of the listener. With that being said, the downsides for me are, almost non stop singing and the songs are a bit choppy. If they could lighten up a little and have a little more fun and just jam and not sound quite so structured, it would free them up a bit. It sounds as though they have worked very hard and long to come up with these songs and it has paid off. Because if this is there debut album, they are on their way to do some big time things. My Disgrace is no Disgrace.
