I've been writing songs for the next album.  Not sure how long it'll take and I am not rushing it.  I have pieces of about 4 songs in the works.  I've also been singing in a local cover band in the meantime.

How's the writing going Temp? Hopefully as smooth as glass. Smiley

It's been a while since I have posted any kind of update on our band so here goes.

All of us have been playing in our other bands for the last year or so. I have joined a local cover band where I am singing a lot of 70s/80s/90s rock songs. This has been a whole lot of fun and has really given my voice a workout! I think you guys will hear a big difference next time I record. I'm really looking forward to laying down some vocals on our next album because I think it's gonna be awesome.

I have started writing some new material but haven't gotten too far into it yet. I am dedicating all of 2010 to finishing writing the next disc. In the meantime I've been taking myself back to school on guitar by working on a lot of TESTAMENT solos, old DESTRUCTION, METAL CHURCH, and HELSTAR songs etc. Those are a lot of the guitarists who still blow my mind with their skill and creativity and they continue to inspire me. Maybe one day I will record a video of me playing some of these songs and upload it to YouTube.

I'm looking at making some pretty big changes for our next disc but I am not sure I am ready to announce them yet. I want to make sure everything is going to come together first and once the songwriting is nearing completion then I will announce it. I also have a tentative album title with some song titles/subjects.

I'm also trying to figure out what cover song we're going to record this time. I like recording these because they are a lot of fun and usually pretty challenging to pull off. I have a lot of ideas in mind but I am going to demo out a few of my picks and see which one comes together the best. I think this time we will try to do a new arrangement of an old classic instead of playing pretty much what the original artist recorded.

We are also happy to announce that our debut album "Prepare for the Judgement of Mankind" is being re-released on VINYL by Open Grave Records! We're very excited about that because some of us are vinyl collectors and can't wait to add this to our collections.

How do you guys feel about mp3 only releases? Do you guys still prefer CDs overall or just mp3s if they are a few dollars cheaper?

Still like the CD, though I can see it will go the way of the cassette and 8track eventually. A friend of mine has a band and he is strictly an mp3 man, but he will burn a CD for those old foggies like me who order them. It's a pain in the butt for him but he says its a way of respecting his fans.

Yeah, I still prefer having a physical CD also. I don't mind listening to MP3s, but I like to get the full package for CD art, liner notes, and lyrics. It's easy to grab a CD or two for my mood and showcase a band when visiting other people. Plus, I think CDs are better for playing in the car, rather than cycling through a thousand MP3s to find what I want to hear.

I also find that with a CD you're more likely to listen to an album in its entirety. You get more of the flow of the album, which artists work hard at creating. With Christian music this is actually an important element, as some of the more profound lyrics may be found in songs I might not immediately classify as hits. And yeah, cover art is a lost appreciation. I've seen some beautiful album covers on this site. Someone should collect them in a coffee table book. Hmmm....

I agree that cover art is a lost appreciation, especially when you consider that some artwork has only been authorized by the artist for a limited time of use. I know that for a fact because I've talked to the guys from Becoming The Archetype about getting a t-shirt having their first album cover, but they are no longer allowed to print t-shirts with that art work because of a restriction from the artist.

I buy a lot of mp3 albums online. First, you get that instant gratification and it is cheaper. I am also an avid CD collector so I'm sort of torn here. Rather anyone likes it or not, digital music is the way of the future and soon the CD will just be obsolete. I work a lot with mp3's and the only thing I would recommend Temp is make them at least 192kbps.

Right now we are trying to finish up a 2 song demo to send to a prospective record label. Trying to work in the new musicians and it would be nice to be signed for our next album.
